This project was a full home remodel of a 70’s era split level: from a basement update, to kitchen and dining room refresh, new trifold glass doors leading to a new deck, even a new bespoke front entry, and more. The owner wanted a design that was connected to the existing home, with clean transitions that would make all updates seem integrated and while modern, also complementary to the existing home. Construction options and materials were reviewed and planned with an eye towards creating a design that met the owners needs, design aesthetic, and was efficient in cost and schedule to construct.

This project in the Woodlawn Neighborhood of Portland started as an attached ADU with a minor remodel of the existing house. Over the course of the design the remodel grew into essentially rebuilding and doubling the size of the existing house. Challenges with this project included the unique triangular site as well as designing the project to comply with the City of Portland Historic Resources regulations as the project is located in a historical district.

Boise Addition

This addition took place at a 50’s era house in the North End Neighborhood of Boise, ID. We provided the conceptual design and permit documents for a second story addition to a one story brick ranch home. We worked closely with the owners to develop a design that enhances the overall massing of the structure and gives the home exceptional curb appeal. One of the owners is a very skilled finish carpenter and the addition has numerous built-ins and other opportunities to show his craft.

This 1,800 square foot bungalow-style home was designed with quality in mind. Details at windows, incorporation of the columns and porch design all contributed to the feel of a cozy Craftsman-style home. The contractor executed the design intent with enthusiasm, creating a well-built structure that has permanence and character. The residence is located in a new development of a small town and has influenced the design of subsequent homes in the area.
