The Great Scott Trio

The Great Scott Trio is a mixed use building on the corner of NE 7th Avenue and Burnside Street in Portland, we have been working on it with Guerrilla Development. The building contains 36 small studio apartments, a portion of which will be dedicated to 18 year olds exiting the foster care system, as well as a fully accessible live/work unit. The building is fronted by an iconic arcade walkway and backed by a plaza, joining it with the existing building to the north. Sustainable design features include solar panels and green roof for the entire roof, an unconditioned lobby, and large expanses of highly operable windows to allow for users to choose the amount of natural ventilation for their units. The courtyard has native trees and plantings, and is open to the sky, offering views of nature to each occupant as they exit their unit. Located in a historic area of Portland with a design overlay zone, our design received a 6-1 approval vote from the Portland Design Commission.

The Portland Building Reconstruction

Convergence worked on this progressive design-build reconstruction project, teaming with DLR Group and Howard S. Wright to deliver a modernized and refreshed Portland Building for the City of Portland. The project delivery method is integrated in a collaborative way to maximize the team’s expertise, creativity, and efficiency.

Built in 1981, the 360,000 SF Portland Building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is regarded internationally as an example of Post-Modernism. The $195M project involved major renovations, including seismic upgrades with the goal of enhancing the efficiency and functionality of the building as a workplace, in addition to reconstructing the building envelope and M/E/P systems. Convergence providing critical design support and led the development of the virtual reality tools. We supported the BIM execution plan, served on the REVIT team, and supported the development of project specifications. The virtual reality tools facilitated essential walkthroughs with the client and team, enabling quick, informed decision-making throughout the design process.

The Portland Building is Gold LEED O+M certified and Well-Building certified.
