Previously, was had a series of blog posts where each person here at Convergence shared an image that influenced/ inspired them to join the architecture/ design field. Recently, we brought our summer intern on as a part time employee, and so we’re going to have them share their inspiration as well.
The image can be whatever strikes the person’s fancy- a building, a park, a scenic image, a design motif or detailing… any visual representation that can help to share a bit of insight into how and why the person got into this field and the work that we do.
Today, Philipp is sharing his inspirational image.

My image would be Salk Institute for Biological Studies, located in San Diego, designed by Louis Kahn. I got interested in this building when I heard and Louis Kahn for the first time. I personally visited this place two years ago when I was in California with my uncle and his family. There are many reasons why this building stuck in my memory. I think one of them is calm and peaceful atmosphere that is conveyed in this building. Materials such as concrete and wood create a perfect connection with nature and with beautiful views of the ocean. And of course a lot warm memories of time spent in California.
This building definitely inspired me to become an architect. At that moment I wanted to become a person who would be able to understand how to create something so significant but at the same time so simple.
